The Independence Day is a national holiday in the Republic of Croatia which is celebrated on the 8th of October.
On that day in 1991, the Croatian Parliament unanimously decided about breaching all contracts with other countries in the former Yugoslav Republic.
In that way The Republic of Croatia became the independent and free country.
